For over 30 years, Gage Academy of Art has centered its mission around educating, enriching, and transforming our community through the visual arts. Gage Academy of Art’s scholarship program supports Gage’s commitment to making arts education accessible and equitable to everyone who wishes to pursue their artistic practice.
Each year, applications are carefully reviewed and granted by a rotating panel of local and national artists and creative leaders in the greater Seattle area and beyond.

THE STANLEY R. AND ROBERT E. WRIGHT FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
One $5,000 award towards any Atelier program
The Stanley R. and Robert E. Wright Foundation for the Arts Scholarship is a partial scholarship dedicated to the continuation of artistic excellence and the creative pursuit of aesthetic beauty through the fields of fine art, commercial art, and classical music. This scholarship is awarded to a student between 17 and 27 who demonstrates outstanding ability and motivation to pursue a career in their field.
BLACK, INDIGENOUS, PEOPLE OF COLOR (BIPOC) SCHOLARSHIP FUND
One $4,500 award towards any Atelier Program
The BIPOC Scholarship is a partial scholarship designed to empower and support BIPOC students by providing funding to enroll in one of Gage Academy of Art’s renowned Atelier programs during the 2024-2025 academic year.
THE DENNIS EVANS AND NANCY MEE ATELIER SCHOLARSHIP
Two $2,500 awards towards any Atelier program, or adult classes/workshops
The Dennis Evans and Nancy Mee Scholarship was established to support Gage students who are experimental and are not afraid to challenge traditional art boundaries within their artistic approach.
THE MICHAEL AND JAMIE RAWDING ATELIER SCHOLARSHIP
One $2,500 award towards any Atelier program
The Michael and Jamie Rawding Atelier Scholarship is a partial scholarship for incoming and current students of Gage’s Atelier program.
THE ALLAN AND MARY KOLLAR SCHOLARSHIP
One $1,000 award towards any Atelier program
The Allan and Mary Kollar Scholarship is a partial scholarship designated for a Gage Atelier student. The Atelier program is designed for artists who intend to pursue profound mastery in the disciplines of painting, drawing, or sculpture under the guidance of an internationally renowned teaching artist.
2024-2025 SCHOLARSHIP JURY
Priya Frank (she/her/hers) has over 25 years of experience investing in equity, diversity and inclusion work professionally, educationally and in community. Currently, she is the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the Seattle Art Museum. In this senior leadership role, her focus is on strategic planning, racial equity related initiatives and community engagement. Frank is a former Seattle Arts Commissioner and served as co-chair from 2018-2020, is a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow and currently contributes as a member of Friends of the Waterfront’s Community Connections Committee and ArtsFund’s Kitchen Cabinet Committee. She recently co-edited and co-authored the book Small Wins to Sweeping Change: Working Together to Foster Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism in Museums. For her efforts she has been acknowledged on Seattle Magazine’s Most Influential People list and was one of Puget Sound Business Journal’s top 40 under 40. She holds a B.A. in Communications and American Ethnic Studies from University of Washington Seattle and an M.A. in Cultural Studies from University of Washington Bothell, where she received the 2020 Alumnae of the Year award and was the 2023 commencement speaker.
Miha Sarani is a visual artist, art historian, educator and curator. Born and raised in Ljubljana, Slovenia, he moved permanently to the US in 2007. Miha was a student speaker at the graduation ceremony for the School of Art + Art History + Design, and received the Husky 100 award in 2019. He was nominated for the Mayor’s Arts Award in 2020, and currently serves as a curator for the Washington State Arts Commission. He has a BFA in Painting & Drawing and a MA in Art History from the University of Washington. His work has been shown at museums and galleries, featured in art journals, publications, promotional materials, and on music covers. His large Koncentrik Painting series is owned by the University of Washington and on permanent display at Mary Gates Hall. Miha divides time between his own art practice, and lecturing at Seattle University. He lives in Seattle with his wife Tomitha, and their dogs Blue and Sister Ray, and is a member of the Shift Gallery in Seattle’s Pioneer Square.
Stephen Lacy lives and works in Seattle and holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and an MA and BS from Ball State University. He has exhibited under the name Academy Records since 2000. An interdisciplinary artist and educator, his focus is on creative problem-solving and concept-building through ideation and material exploration. He has most recently taught 3D Design and Design Thinking at Providence College before relocating to Seattle. Having taught at both the university and high school level, he has held positions teaching foundations, media arts and film production/aesthetics. Academy Records has exhibited commissioned projects in the 2014 Whitney Biennial and 2016 New England Biennial at deCordova Sculpture Park & Museum, and presented solo shows at Anthony Greaney Gallery, Rockhurst University’s Greenlease Gallery, Gallery Wassermuhle in Heilengenrode Germany, Herron School of Art, Chicago’s Hyde Park Art Center, Paris London Hong Kong Gallery, and Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, among other venues. Academy’s projects have been discussed in Artforum, Art in America, Artnet News, Boston Globe, Contemporary Art Daily, New York Times, NPR, 60 Inches from Center and WIRE Magazine, among other outlets. Academy Records has been in residence at Illinois State University’s School of Art; Can Serrat, Spain; Good Hatchery, Ireland; The Center for Land Use Interpretation, Utah; and Kunstlerstatte Stuhr, Germany.
