Starting a Painting Like an Artist
Meidi Karampour
$540
We will go through plans and decisions one needs to make prior to starting a painting, no matter what medium or material the students are going to work with. The course will start with a lecture on the process of a painting from the very start point; here I will talk about the role of inspirations, skills, techniques and mediums. In the lecture, students will learn how these factors can eventually affect the outcome of the finished work and how artists should be considering them. After the lecture, students will practice on choosing their subjects in terms of the objects they are picking and the ways they can look at it. Students then will learn how different sketches can contribute to the painting and what information can be delivered by the style of the sketches they are making. At the next step, I will teach students on picking the medium and preparing the proper materials from pigments, lights to even their physical abilities depending on their goals. The last step will be transferring their ideas and sketches to start the actual painting and how to utilize all the information to help them execute the best result they can. This course will only go through the preparation process and it will not execute a finished work.
