Portrait Drawing with special techniques in pastel pencil. Focus will be on materials and drawing methods. Lessons include proportion, structure, light & shadow, and color choices. Pastel pencils are convenient and often easier to use than chalk pastels. Students will work from photo references, provided. Open to all levels, beginners welcome.

Required Supplies

  • Box cutter or X-acto knife
  • Lead pointer (or similar sandpaper block)
  • 18 x 24 drawing board with clips
  • Variety of erasers (kneaded, white click eraser, etc)
  • 18 x 24 pastel paper
  • 2 each of the following:
    • Stabilo Carb Othello; 1400/105, /681, /655, /100
    • Faber Castell Pitt Pastel Pencils; 1122-177, -140, -267
(Further pencil colors and paper will be added later in the semester)
Students will need access to a printer
