Cartooning Basics
Edie Everette
$390
Instruction Medium: Mixed media
This class takes a broad approach to creating single panel, sequential and abstract forms of comics. Because each artist brings their own idiosyncratic style to comic and cartoon-making, stories and anecdotes can be told in endless styles and mediums. In ways that pictures and text alone cannot, cartoons inherently contain 'breaks' between panels where the audience/reader may participate in time. Whether you have an idea for a character or a story, or have never drawn a cartoon in your life, this class will support you toward the next steps of your cartooning journey.
Each class begins with a slide show that compliments both the technical exercise and longer assignment of that day. We end with class critiques, and optional homework is assigned. For the last class, each student will make photocopies of their favorite comic made during class to give the other students.
