Figure Painting from a Photograph Part II
This class is an opportunity for students to broaden their subject matter from simple figures to more complex compositions and to examine the many different uses of photography in contemporary painting. Using the basic principles from Part I, students will attempt painting the figure in interior and exterior environments as well as in motion. Students will be introduced to different paint manipulation and layering techniques to deepen their vocabulary of mark making to describe the variety within a given environment. We will observe abstractions in photography and how this provides opportunities to describe space and light in unexpected ways with paint. Each class will provide time for a demonstration, questions and in class painting time. Critiques of students work will be held in class at the completion of each assignment.
