Painting Anime and Cartoon Backgrounds

This class will be both a study and exploration of what popular cartoons and anime utilize in their environments. We'll spend the classes doing master copies of existing backgrounds and images of landscapes, working with mostly gouache and acrylic, in order to note what makes an environment work with these mediums. Then the class will transition and finish on a more creative note, where students will be encouraged to create their own piece inspired by the styles from these shows. Students will walk away with a better understanding of painting, environments, color theory, composition, and a few beautiful landscape paintings!
