In this 5-week evening class we will be using the language of color blocking to construct and paint a still-life scene. We will be learning to observe large shapes of light and dark in our still life set-ups and how these shapes interact with the environment each object sits within. We will explore complementary color palettes to help us notice the temperature of light and find the playful interaction between warm light vs. cool shadows. We will begin by working through small quick oil studies and then progress to a longer painting where we will learn to observe, mix and paint the temperature of light. This class will build on my still life painting-VALUE class and it is therefore encouraged that you take my still life painting-VALUE class prior progressing to this color unit, but is by no means mandatory.
