This course is designed for fine arts students, beginners, and intermediate artists who want to explore the art of figure drawing using charcoal. Over 5 sessions, you will learn the fundamental principles and techniques necessary to create compelling and realistic figure drawings through the classical approach.

Class Objectives:
-Understand the Basic Principles of Life Figure Drawing: Learn the foundational elements that underpin realistic figure drawing from live models.
-Simplification of Natural Form: Discover how to break down complex forms into simpler shapes to improve accuracy and ease in drawing.
-Light Effect Through Compression of Light and Shadows: Explore techniques to depict light and shadow, enhancing the three-dimensionality of your drawings.
-Understand Outline and Shadow Line: Develop skills in defining the form with precise outlines and shadows to create depth and realism.
-Basics of the "Visual Impression": Gain insight into capturing the essence of the figure by focusing on overall visual impact rather than minute details.
-Working in "Sight-Size": Practice the "sight-size" method, a classical drawing technique that ensures proportional accuracy by keeping your subject and drawing at the same scale.

Class Structure: The course consists of:
-5 Sessions: Each session lasts 3 hours and involves drawing from a live model.
-Opening Lecture & Setup Demo: At the beginning of the first session, you will receive an introductory lecture on the principles of charcoal Figure drawing. This will be followed by a demonstration of setting up your workspace and materials.
-One-on-One Critiques: For the remainder of the sessions, the instructor will provide personalized feedback and critiques, helping you improve your work through direct guidance.
