In this weekend workshop participants will work from the life model and create a dynamic composition that emphasizes Value and Temperature relationships. Observation and invention will be used to integrate the figure into an interior environment with a focus on abstraction as a means for poetic expression.

Required Supplies

Instructor’s demo will be in oils, with a limited Temperature palette. You will want a couple of warm colors and a couple of cool colors. Instructor uses Williamsburg paints.

Recommended pigments:
WARMS: Mars Orange, Mars Yellow, Mars Red, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Yellow Medium.
COOLS: Mars Black, Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue, Cobalt Blue.
NEUTRALS: Titanium White
Assortment of Brushes:
Bristle and Smooth. Instructor prefers Rounds, sizes 2, 4, 6 (Princeton Ashley; Princeton Imperial)

Other:
Palette for Mixing
Palette Knife
Gamsol (odorless mineral spirits), with small dish or squeeze bottle
Dorland’s Wax Medium, small jug
2 Surfaces for painting on. Instructor will be painting on Arches Oil Paper, 12" x 16”
Paper Towels or Rags
