In this class Students may share drawings they are having difficulty with and the instructor will demo possible suggestions. Why do drawings seem “flat”? It is usually a lack of strong values - or it is a narrow range between the lightest light and darkest dark. Common solutions include understanding how to create shapes using triangulation to improve proportions, breaking down complex subjects into simpler forms, and learning about perspective to create depth. Other strategies involve varying line and tone to create contrast and emphasis, orusing creative exercises to boost inspiration. Demos on provided references, blocking in values, using negative space, value scale, learning relative proportion techniques. Thumbnail sketching to improve composition. Reference photos of bad drawings, paintings will be provided. Video of workshop will be provided.
