Alla Prima Portrait Painting

CLASS DESCRIPTION This beginner-friendly course demonstrates how to paint a beautiful portrait from a live model in a single session. It introduces time-tested techniques used by the Old Masters, equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to capture the unique likeness of any subject. The course covers fundamental methods that convey depth of character and accuracy, such as proportion, value, and rendering. By the end, students will possess the foundational skills to create compelling, lifelike portraits of friends, family, and more. WHAT THE STUDENT WILL LEARN Students will learn how to create a basic block-in and establish areas of shadow and light. We will also cover which brushes work best for each stage of the painting, from laying in large areas to fine-tuning features.
