Foundation Figure Drawing-Artistic Anatomy

In the second installment of our three-part foundation series, students will immerse themselves in the intricacies of figure anatomy and proportion. Guided by live models, the journey begins with simple yet expressive gesture drawings, gradually progressing towards the creation of more intricate, convincing, and captivating three-dimensional figure renderings. Throughout this quarter, students will seize the opportunity to study and incorporate the nuances of superficial muscles and bony landmarks into their artwork. Furthermore, they will refine their techniques for portraying foreshortened figures while honing their observational skills, measuring techniques, and rendering abilities.
Each stage of this learning process is designed to build upon the previous one, ultimately equipping students with the skills, confidence, and artistic capacity needed to produce truly compelling and beautiful figure drawing.
Required Supplies
Supports:
· Drawing board 18” x 24"
· Rough Newsprint 18” x 24” (to pad your drawing paper, and for gestures)
· Strathmore 500 series Charcoal paper pad 18” x 24"
· Borden & Riley #90 Vellum Shear Trace Paper 55lb - 9” x 12” (for optional homework)
· White mat board or illustration board ((for optional homework)
Drawing Materials:
· Kneaded eraser
· White eraser
· General’s Charcoal pencils (several HB’s one 2B)
· General’s White Charcoal pencil
· Blending Stumps (not the spiral wound ones)
· Willow Charcoal (Med. Sticks 5-6 mm)
· Prismacolor Colored Pencils, terra cotta and black (2 of each) (for optional homework)
· Spray Adhesive (for optional homework)
· 3M Gloss Finish Tape (for optional homework)
· Chamois
· Small Snap knife from hardware store
· Sandpaper (one piece of 150 sandpaper)
· 2 bull dog clips
· Wooden skewer (for sighting and measuring)
· Tombow Zero Refillable Round Eraser (VERY useful)
