Plein Air Painting in Watercolor Some experience with watercolor painting required Bring a sack lunch Spend a spring day outdoors exploring plein air painting techniques at Magnuson Park. Magnuson provides a wealth of subject matter from tree lined views of Lake Washington to hidden wetland habitats. We will focus on two different habitats, one with morning light and the other in the afternoon light. Students will explore key strategies to interpreting the landscape in watercolor. Begin with learning to develop strong compositions based on thumbnail sketches and quick value studies. Learn how to simplify complex subjects and work loosely to capture the essence of the subject. View the work of contemporary and classical painters for inspiration. Gain confidence in color mixing with transparent and staining pigments as you build beautiful layers from light to dark. This workshop will serve as a springboard for your plein air painting for the coming months!
