Reductive Sculpture in Plaster
No Class: 4/27 or 5/25
Explore the fundamentals of direct carving in this easy to work material. Students will use a variety of techniques and tools to create sculpture by removing excess material to expose the figure within. We will work in plaster, which has been carved for millennia, and learn skills that can be applied to other mediums like wood and stone.
This class will meet for 6 sessions, the first class (4/20) will be to set the plaster in a mold. The carving will begin 2 weeks later (5/4), once the molds have set. Additionally there will be no class on 5/25 in observance of Memorial Day.
