Relief Sculpting: Pitti Tondo by Michelangelo
Discover the art of “Sculpting from the Masters” in this immersive four-day workshop led by instructor Mardie Rees. You’ll create your own bas-relief masterpiece—a hand-sculpted miniature of Michelangelo’s iconic Pitti Tondo—while mastering the subtle techniques of both high and low relief sculpture.
Rees will guide you through every step: from initial composition to refined surface detail. You’ll work in time-tested water-based clay suitable for air-drying at home or firing at your local ceramic studio.
The workshop includes live demonstrations, personalized critiques, insights into Florentine Renaissance art, and a close look at the principles that distinguish great low and high relief sculpture.
Come away with both a finished artwork and a deeper understanding of classical form and technique!
