Learn portrait drawing with pastel pencils. This course will cover the fundamentals of portraiture including anatomy, proportion, light & shadow and perspective. Basic color theory as it applies to the media will be covered. Focus will be primarily on methods and techniques. Includes a thorough overview of materials. Class format involves live drawing demonstration, lecture, and time for feedback on student works. Classes will be recorded for later viewing.

Required Supplies

18 x 24" pastel paper (toned)

Clipboard for 18 x 24 paper 2" binder clips (x2)

  • Faber Castell Pitt Pastel #177, #151, #140, #267, #132.
  • Stabilo CarbOthello #655, #105, #100, #681

Erasers:

  • Kneaded rubber
  • white click/stick eraser
  • Tombow Mono
  • Sand eraser

X-acto knife or box cutter

Sandpaper lead pointer

Students will need access to a digital camera and a printer
