Carl Gellert

Carl Gellert is an art historian based in Seattle. He has a broad interest in the arts and is enthusiastic to explore works from all areas of the globe. His specialization lies in early Japanese art and archaeology, examining the visual culture of tombs and the underlying beliefs that motivated their creation.
Since receiving his PhD from Berkeley in 2018 he has been teaching in Washington state. Before joining Gage, he served as a professor at Western Washington University and Seattle Central College, where he led courses in East Asian and 20th century Western art history, Post-modern visual culture, and exhibition theory, and from 2023-24 he served as the Director of Education at the Bellevue Arts Museum.
