Rock Hushka

Rock Hushka is the former Deputy Director and Chief Curator at Tacoma Art Museum. At TAM, Hushka championed the artists of the Pacific Northwest by curating more than 50 exhibitions and 25 publications. In close collaboration with the Executive Director and Development team, Hushka participated in the work that secured more than 3,000 gifts of art and set the artistic vision for the outdoor sculpture program and the two museum expansion projects for the Rebecca and Jack Benaroya Wing and the Haub Family Galleries.

Hushka’s publications include Metaphor into Form: The Rebecca and Jack Benaroya Collection, Zhi Lin: In Search of the Lost History Chinese Migrants and the Transcontinental Railroads, and The Romantic Vision of Michael Brophy. Hushka contributed to the inaugural publication for Chihuly: Garden and Glass.

Hushka has earned three bachelor of arts degrees from the University of Washington, a master of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin—Madison, and an associate of applied science degree from Seattle Central College. While at TAM, Hushka received two National Endowment for the Arts Access to Artistic Excellence grants, an Andy Warhol Foundation for the Arts Curatorial Fellowship, and a Getty Leadership Institute Fellowship.

Hushka recently transitioned careers, seeking to bridge the experiential learning of museum exhibitions to graphic design and educational technology, seeking to contribute to enhanced and broadly accessible learning opportunities in the digital space.
