January 18 - March 22
W
6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Beginner
This class will introduce the basic technical skills to work in charcoal with an emphasis on the figure. Students will get to explore the characteristics of different charcoal mediums such as vine charcoal, compressed charcoal, and charcoal powder, and learn to use them to advance their own artistic exploration and expression. As we will mostly work from live, unclothed models, through keen observation and iterative working methods, students will not only discover the various approaches and possibilities of the charcoal mediums, but also gain deeper understanding of the human form. Some prior understanding of working with the figure is helpful.
