Charcoal Portraits

Learn to capture a person's likeness in charcoal. This class will explore classic and new inventive ways to apply charcoal to capture different textures and help control a sometimes messy medium. We will work with makeup brushes, cotton balls, sponges, micro erasers - along with charcoal pencils. The class will teach useful techniques to construct a proportioned portrait. I will work with each student to achieve their goals of realism and help express their personal style and mark making. We will discuss how to get a good reference image. Teens will bring in a photo from home or a portrait they want to draw.
