Required Supplies

Supply List:
  • Bristol vellum or smooth and thicker surface (strathmore or blicks)
    • Paper Note: Lightweight drawing paper is not useful for charcoal application, so make sure to have appropriate thickness to the paper. Also, watercolor paper is not useful for charcoal, I love using a thicker smoother paper for swift charcoal application and articulation
  • Willow charcoal, (thin sticks either of these Brands - Coates, Winsor & Newton, Nitram Charcoal)
    • Optional H, Soft Petits Bâtons
  • Charcoal pencil - H, HB, 2B
  • General's Carbon pencil - B, 2B
  • Wolff's Carbon Kneaded eraser (Grey Either of these Brands - General's, Faber-Castell, Prismacolor)
  • Plastic or rubber eraser - Staedtler
  • Faber-Castell Mechanical eraser
  • Blending stump Variety of Sizes (Richeson, Pro Art, Staedtler)
  • Paint brush Hog Hair Bristle - Filbert or Round
  • Any brand Makeup sponges - Wedged Shape
  • Paper towels or shop cloth
  • Alternatively or complimentary to the materials above, you can also invest in PanPastel Artists' Painting Pastels Set - Grey Scale (I like using these to offer me a wide range of gray scale, deepest blacks, stronger whites and less powdery charcoal alternatives.)
