Required Supplies
Supply List:
- Bristol vellum or smooth and thicker surface (strathmore or blicks)
- Paper Note: Lightweight drawing paper is not useful for charcoal application, so make sure to have appropriate thickness to the paper. Also, watercolor paper is not useful for charcoal, I love using a thicker smoother paper for swift charcoal application and articulation
- Willow charcoal, (thin sticks either of these Brands - Coates, Winsor & Newton, Nitram Charcoal)
- Optional H, Soft Petits Bâtons
- Charcoal pencil - H, HB, 2B
- General's Carbon pencil - B, 2B
- Wolff's Carbon Kneaded eraser (Grey Either of these Brands - General's, Faber-Castell, Prismacolor)
- Plastic or rubber eraser - Staedtler
- Faber-Castell Mechanical eraser
- Blending stump Variety of Sizes (Richeson, Pro Art, Staedtler)
- Paint brush Hog Hair Bristle - Filbert or Round
- Any brand Makeup sponges - Wedged Shape
- Paper towels or shop cloth
- Alternatively or complimentary to the materials above, you can also invest in PanPastel Artists' Painting Pastels Set - Grey Scale (I like using these to offer me a wide range of gray scale, deepest blacks, stronger whites and less powdery charcoal alternatives.)
