This 5-week class can be taken in succession after Beginning Oil Painting: Master Study, or as a first introduction to oil painting through color mixing exercises and still life subjects. We’ll begin with a focus on value and form with a monochromatic still life painting using a mixed dark neutral color plus white. Moving on to a second painting exploring color temperature through a limited palette (Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, and Titanium White) will stretch students to see relationships between warm and cool colors and the interaction of light on color relationships. We’ll work from still life set ups from direct observation in the classroom.
