Bloom in Tone is a five week online drawing course dedicated to the study of spring florals through tonal relationships, light, and form using charcoal and white chalk on brown paper. This limited palette encourages clarity of seeing, refined observation, and confident mark-making. Working on a mid-toned surface allows students to draw both into shadow and into light, developing a balanced, sculptural approach to floral drawing. The course emphasizes structure, value hierarchy, and atmosphere creating drawings that feel dimensional, elegant, and alive.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Construct floral forms with clear value hierarchy
  • Use mid-tone paper as an active part of the drawing
  • Model petals using light and shadow
  • Balance black, white, and paper tone harmoniously
  • Create floral drawings with depth, softness, and clarity

Required Supplies
