Constructive Figure Drawing: Action, Structure, and Design
Brenno Kenji
$730
In this class, you will learn a reliable 3-stage process for drawing the human figure with confidence from life, reference, and imagination.
Working from live models, we begin with a gestural lay-in built around the major landmarks of the body, allowing us to quickly capture the action and intent of the pose. We will then organize the figure into simple volumes that create structure, solidity, and form. Finally, we will unify the drawing through anatomy, shape design, and the rhythms that connect the body into a cohesive whole.
Class includes demonstrations, lectures, drawing time, and individualized feedback. All levels are welcome.
Topics include:
- gesture as a connective strategy
- figure construction and dynamic action
- the general model vs. the unique individual
- form modeling technique
- light logic, shape design, and form analysis
- line quality and expressive mark-making
- functional anatomy and anatomical rhythms
- foreshortening and the illusion of depth
