Drawing is the cornerstone of so many creative pursuits — and not only for work in two dimensions. Drawing things is a wonderful place to start. In this class, you will build foundational skills through still life drawing using charcoal, the most traditional and forgiving of drawing mediums. You will learn to see a grouping as a composition rather than just a collection of objects — it’s about relationships, not things. Concepts and methods covered include mark-making, gesture and line, shape and proportion, light and shadow, value, form and volume, and composition. By the end of this course, you will have the confidence to keep drawing. And you will see the world differently. That is the real gift of drawing.
