Nature will be the biggest inspiration and element in this 5-week course. On one hand this course will be focused on creating natural ink and on the other hand this class will focus on how to draw and paint with natural ink. For the ink making portion students will learn how to extract pigment from local plants, compost, and minerals. They will also learn about various methods of ink making (both historical and experimental), recipes, and how lightfastness plays into ink. Everyone will leave with half a dozen different kinds of ink. For the drawing portion of the class students will learn: fundamental properties of strokes and pen control, different techniques for shading, and how to paint with ink. Please reference the class supply list and there will be a $10 fee for other class materials that will be paid to the instructor on the first day.
