Portrait Sculpting

This course, using the medium of natural water based clay, introduces techniques for accurately creating a life size portrait from a live model. Starting with measuring techniques and analyzing the anatomy of the head, students will gradually work outward from the skull towards the softer morphology of the muscles, fat pads and facial features. Essential clay sculpting techniques will be covered. After the portraits are complete, students will have the opportunity to prepare their work to be fired. Portrait sculpture is also an excellent way for 2D artists to deepen their knowledge of the head from every angle.
