Sumi Painting: Under the Sea

Experience the flowing techniques of Japanese sumi painting. Sumi (ink) will be the primary medium used to portray a variety of life forms from the sea. Traditional tools and materials as well as basic brushwork will be covered as will “suminagashi”, the ancient technique of Japanese paper marbling. Students will be encouraged to express their individual interpretation of subjects.

2. RICE PAPER Best Shuan (also referred to as Single Xuan; 2 rolls or 10 full size sheets)
or Jin Pi (2 rolls or 10 full size sheets)
