A cross disciplinary approach to instruction that is focused on developing student’s creativity and their unique solutions to visual art problems. This class will guide students through the process of setting up their own sustainable practice, and offer a space for analysis and synthesis of various techniques students have learned in other skill-building classes. Discussions, critiques and readings will help us navigate the overwhelming complexity most artists face today, not only in the world at large, but within their own practice. This class is designed for students who want to focus on developing their own practice and have already taken foundations programs (such as SAI) or equivalent intro classes at Gage or another institution. Also recommended for students looking to develop a body of work for a specific purpose.

Land Acknowledgment: Gage Academy of Art would like to acknowledge that we stand on the traditional ancestral lands of the Coast Salish peoples—specifically the Duwamish People, past and present—and honor, with gratitude, the land itself, the Duwamish Tribe, and their ancient heritage. Without them, we would not have access to this gathering, dialogue and learning space. We ask that we take this opportunity to thank the original caretakers of this land, who are still here.
