Clara Schmitt

Clara Schmitt was born and raised in Paris, France. Her early career began in academia as a social science researcher. In 2015, she moved to Seattle and became the mother of two children. In 2021, Schmitt made a pivotal decision: to pursue her long-held passion for sculpture full-time. That same year, she entered the Magrath Sculpture Atelier at Gage, driven by a deep thirst for the skills and knowledge to bring her creative ideas to life. Now that she's graduated from the program, she will begin instructing atelier students alongside Mike Magrath.

Her path has been anything but linear, but each step—academic research, motherhood, crisis, renewal—has added depth to her practice. Sculpture has become Schmitt's language for expressing the multitudes within herself, and her goal is to continue creating work that invites others to see themselves in all their complexity.
