Rebecca Dvorin Strong
ContractorRebecca Dvorin Strong is known for meticulous artworks in which she painstakingly creates the illusion of light using multiple layers of color. Working in oils, water-based mediums, inks, and charcoal, her subjects range from images of the natural world to abstract paintings inspired by nature. Strong graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where she received awards for drawing, painting, and printmaking, as well as a European traveling scholarship. Being drawn to northern landscapes for inspiration, she moved from the east coast to the Pacific Northwest when she was in her 30’s, and she has traveled extensively in Scandinavia, including a grant from the American-Scandinavian Foundation, to experience and paint the Midnight Sun above the Arctic Circle in Norway, and an artist residency in Iceland. She has also been awarded artist residencies at the Mary Anderson Center for the Arts at the Mount Saint Francis Center for Spirituality in Indiana, and at the Morris Graves Foundation on the northern California coast. Strong was awarded a Grant for Artist Projects (GAP) from Artist Trust in Seattle for her symbolic tree self-portraits. She has been represented by galleries in New York City and Portland, Oregon.
