Honoring the Life and Legacy of Gary Faigin

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Gary Faigin, Founding Artistic Director of Gage Academy of Art, passed away on Saturday, September 6.

He would have turned 75 next week.

This news may come as a surprise to many. Though Gary had been facing health challenges over the past year, I spoke with him just recently and he was excited about his plans for the upcoming quarter as he prepared to retire at the end of June 2026. We are all deeply saddened by this unexpected turn.

Gary’s wife, Pamela, shared that he passed peacefully, surrounded by family. His loved ones appreciate your support and the gift of privacy during this quiet time. A memorial gathering to celebrate Gary’s life will be announced in the coming weeks, and we will share details as soon as they are available.

Until then, we hold Gary in our hearts as a masterful artist, a friend and colleague, and a visionary without whom Gage Academy of Art would not have been born or thrived for over thirty-five years. We know that Gary meant a lot to many people and if you would like to share a memory of Gary, please do so below.

Together we grieve his passing and send our thoughts to his family.
