Character Design: Form and Function

This course covers the anatomy and stylization of human and animal characters. We dive into the psychology of shape, color theory, and conveying emotion. We will learn how to exaggerate the anatomy and facial features of figures and animals; and examine different styles and methods of drawing characters. Students will be encouraged to discover their own unique style; and professional Illustrators will join us to discuss their careers and techniques. Students may use traditional drawing media on paper, or choose to paint digitally using a tablet and accompanying software. Assignments will be given each week in addition to in-class gesture drawing of human and animal subjects.
