Gesture Drawing Like an Animator

This 5 week class is focused on the theoretical and practical side of figurative gesture from the lens of the animator, so we will be spending each class discussing and practicing core ideas that would help an animator sketch loosely and energetically. This is a great class for anyone who is considering getting into animation (or are already animating) or those who want to enhance their drawings/paintings with more flow. You will walk away from this class with an understanding of line, shape, storytelling in pose, and expressions - as well as lots and lots of drawings!

Required Supplies

Required:

• Sketchbook or paper (no smaller than 8.5x11, thin sketch paper OK - you will go through a lot of paper)

• Pens/pencils (recommended: tombow fudenosuke brush pen; mechanical or standard pencils in HB and 2B)

• Camera/other way to upload or show your work in class if you want feedback

Optional:

• Digital art tools (only recommended if you are intermediate/experienced with digital art, as the instructor will not be expressly teaching digital art tools)

• Other traditional art tools such as charcoal or watercolors; fun to experiment with but teacher will not be including this in the instruction.
