Core Color: The Structure of Color

This course is an overview of the structure of color, including value, temperature, intensity, and hue. Students will use markers and acrylic paint to mix complementary color charts, analyze and interpret art historical motifs, and apply color concepts to observed and invented compositions.
Required Supplies
-Blick Essentials Value Brush Set - round brushes, white nylon, set of 12
-one or two cheap flat brushes, 3/4 inch wide
-one cheap flat brush, 2 or 3 inches wide
-glass palette
-palette knife - Blick brand medium spade 59 or similar
-Stanley mini razor blade scraper and replacement blades
-roll of paper towels or supply of rags
-quart takeout container for brush rinsing
-roll of parchment paper
-scissors
-2b or 4b pencil
-white eraser
-transparent plastic ruler
-gesso of your choice—I suggest tri-art sludge
-1 cradled panel, 16”x20”
-1 roll of blue painter’s tape
-1 pack of printer paper
-1 pack of white card stock
-mod podge or elmer’s glue
-Golden Acrylic paint in the following colors:
- 2 tubes titanium white
-1 tube cadmium red light
-1 tube pthalo green
-1 tube cadmium orange
-1 tube ultramarine blue
-1 tube cadmium yellow
-1 tube ultramarine violet
-1 tube yellow ochre
-1 tube burnt Sienna
-1 tube payne’s gray
-Tombow dual tip brush markers in the following colors (or as close as possible):
- 623 purple sage
- 025 light orange
- 555 ultramarine
- 933 orange
- 245 sap green
- 885 warm red
