In this class, students will explore the traditional techniques of metal point, walnut ink, red chalk, trois crayon, and charcoal. Emphasis will be placed on the fundamental principles of line, proportion, form, and value. The class will offer an introduction to these classical drawing techniques, while allowing students to develop their drawing and observational skills as they explore these historic drawing mediums.

Strathmore 500 series white charcoal drawing paper 18x24” or larger (1 sheet)
140lb Hot Press watercolor paper 16x20” or 22x30” (3 sheets)

· Tom Norton Walnut Ink
· Speedball Sketching Project Set
· White gouache paint (14ml)
· Small round watercolor brush
· Sanguine Conte Crayon Pencil
· Black Conte Crayon Pencil
· White Conte Crayon Pencil
· Kneaded eraser
· White plastic eraser
· General’s Charcoal pencils (one HB’s & one 2B)
· Blending Stumps (not the spiral wound ones)
· Coates Willow Charcoal
· Amber Shellac 1 quart (from Lowe’s or Home Depot)
· Denatured Alcohol 1 quart (from Lowe’s or Home Depot)
· 2” Foam Brush
· Yasutomo Silverpoint Drawing Tool – 1mm or Cretacolor Silverpoint Pencil
· Golden Silverpoint/Drawing Ground
· Tombow Zero Refillable Round Eraser (optional but VERY useful)
· Small Snap knife from hardware store
· Sandpaper (150 grit)
· 2 bull dog clips
